Code Enforcement

The Fire & Life Safety Division is responsible for enforcing adopted fire and life safety codes to help protect people, property, and the community. Code enforcement activities focus on identifying and correcting unsafe conditions that increase the risk of fire or other hazards.

Our approach to code enforcement is educational, collaborative, and prevention-focused. Whenever possible, staff work with property owners and occupants to achieve compliance through guidance and reasonable timeframes. Enforcement actions are taken when necessary to address conditions that pose an immediate or ongoing risk to life safety.

By consistently applying fire codes and standards, the Fire & Life Safety Division helps reduce hazards, improve emergency response conditions, and support a safer, more resilient community.

 Event Permitting

The Fire & Life Safety Division reviews and permits events to help ensure the safety of attendees, participants, and emergency responders. Special events - including festivals, gatherings, markets, races, and temporary activities - often invlolve unique fire and life safety considerations such as crowd management, temporary structures, cooking equipment, electrical systems, and emergency access.

Event permitting allows our staff to work proactively with event organizers to identify potential hazards and ensure appropriate safety measures are in place. Our goal is to support successful events while protecting public safety and maintaining access for emergency response.

Organizers are required to submit permit applications 30 days prior to the planned event to allow sufficient time for review, coordiantion, and any required inspections.

  • Identifiy and address potential hazards before emergencies occur
